In the wake of deepening energy crisis and depleting fossil fuel reserves, energy conservation has now gained paramount importance. It is now widely acknowledged that power conservation is more economical than generation. The Government introduced several schemes to promote energy efficient systems, to be implemented across public spaces and households in a phased manner. Light emitting diode (LED) lightings are expected to replace legacy lighting in virtually all lighting applications in the coming years.

LED products are now gradually penetrating rural areas backed by Government schemes to create awareness as well as subsidy programmes. The proportion of LED lightings in the overall lightings market in India is set to increase in the coming years.

The market for LED lightings was estimated at INR 40 billion in 2014 and is expected to witness an annual growth rate of around 30% going forward.
